Commerce proposes 25 percent Section 232 duty on fire extinguishers, safes, and cables
The Bureau of Industry and Security proposed adding 14 derivative articles to the Section 232 steel, aluminum, and copper tariffs, including fire extinguishers, free-standing floor safes, electric conductor cables, brass-wind instruments, welding-machine parts, and trailers; most would pay 25 percent and filled steel gas containers 50 percent. Comments closed August 27, 2026, and the inclusion decision follows.
